What I took away from Uplift Live

I attended Uplift Live again this year, and once again it delivered… but probably not in the way people expect from a “conference”. There’s no hard sell. No overwhelming noise. No trying to prove who’s the smartest in the room.

Instead, it’s led by three people who genuinely know their craft, and more importantly, know how to bring a community together in a way that feels real, not forced. That’s what makes this event different from any other i attend in a year. The talks themselves covered a huge range , from history and mindset, to AI, to personal growth, and somehow it all tied together. Not just in a “this is useful for work” way, but in a “this makes you think about how you show up” kind of way.

And that’s where the value really is, it’s easy to go to events, take notes, feel inspired for a day… and then go back to normal. What Uplift does well is make things stick.

A few things that stayed with me aside from the great talks and invaluable information:

  • The reminder that growth isn’t always visible straight away

  • That the way we communicate (with ourselves and others) has a bigger impact than we realise

  • And that sometimes the most valuable insights come from the conversations in between sessions, not just the sessions themselves

The talk highlights for me have to be Heather Murray’s AI session was a real standout and she is a fellow brummie! her talk was practical, accessible, and a good reminder that AI doesn’t need to be overwhelming to be useful, and it can be refined to be not so “generic” it can be given a tone and a voice that matches something remotely human. Phill Agnew’s talk on marketing combined with his knowledge on human behaviours also stuck with me… one of those sessions where you find yourself nodding along and quietly rethinking how and why we do certain things and then Nicole Osborne brought a completely different energy, sharing stories from her childhood in Germany that had the whole room laughing. It was one of those moments that reminded you learning doesn’t always have to be serious to land, the message was about bringing value to your posts.

For me personally, it’s also a bit of a challenge. Walking into a room full of people doesn’t always come naturally to me and I know I’m not alone in that but within minutes, those barriers drop, conversations happen, connections form, and suddenly it doesn’t feel like “networking” anymore, it just feels like being around people who are figuring things out too..that’s the community piece, and it’s a big one, because at the end of the day, events like this aren’t just about learning, they’re about belonging, sharing experiences, and realising that everyone (even the experts) is still learning as they go.

And that’s probably the biggest takeaway for me, although the AI copywriter support will come in really useful! (and no i haven't written this post using it, but watch this space!). I look forward to the event next year!

Huge thanks to the organisers for another top class event!
